Accessibility Statement

Our commitment
FreshCut NYC is committed to making our marketplace usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe that ordering fresh food from your neighborhood butcher, halal market, or vivero should be available to every New Yorker — regardless of vision, hearing, motor, or cognitive ability.
Conformance target
We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. This is the same standard used by the U.S. Department of Justice for ADA Title III website compliance, and by New York City for its own digital services under Local Law 12 of 2023.
What this looks like in practice
- Keyboard navigation: Every interactive control — including the cart, checkout, dashboard, and the global ⌘K/Ctrl+K search palette — is reachable and operable using only a keyboard. Focus rings are visible at all times.
- Screen reader support: Buttons, links, form fields, and error states use ARIA labels and live regions so NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack announce them correctly. Decorative icons are marked
aria-hidden. - Color contrast: Body text meets a 4.5:1 contrast ratio against its background. Large text and UI indicators meet 3:1. Color is never the only signal — error, warning, and success states all carry text and icons.
- Reduced motion: Animations honor the operating-system
prefers-reduced-motionsetting. The marketplace hero, sponsored hero carousel, and toast notifications fade instead of slide when reduced motion is enabled. - Resizable text: Pages remain functional and readable when zoomed to 200% in any browser.
- Captions and transcripts: Pre-recorded videos published by FreshCut include captions. Live video calls (e.g. customer-support chat) offer text alternatives.
- Forms: Every input has a programmatically associated label. Errors are announced inline and listed at the top of the form for screen-reader users.
- Touch targets: Mobile buttons and links are at least 44×44 CSS pixels — large enough for users with limited fine motor control.
- 9 languages: The interface is translated into English, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Bengali, French, Haitian Creole, Korean, and Russian. Arabic correctly renders right-to-left.
Tested against
We test with the following assistive technologies:
- NVDA (latest) on Windows with Chrome and Firefox
- JAWS (latest) on Windows with Chrome and Edge
- VoiceOver on macOS Safari and iOS Safari
- TalkBack on Android Chrome
- Keyboard-only navigation across all supported browsers
- Automated checks via axe DevTools and Lighthouse on every release
Known limitations
We're honest about where we're not yet at AA. The following are tracked in our backlog with planned fix dates:
- Some user-uploaded product images may not have descriptive alt-text yet. We display the product name and category as a fallback while we encourage vendors to add detail.
- The interactive map of delivery zones is supplemented by a text list of supported ZIP codes, but the map itself is primarily visual.
- PDF compliance documents uploaded by vendors are not always tagged for screen readers. Plain-text summaries are provided where available.
Report a barrier
If you encounter something that doesn't work for you, please let us know. We treat accessibility reports as P1 issues and aim to acknowledge within 2 business days and provide a resolution or workaround within 10 business days.
- Email: accessibility@freshcut.nyc
- Phone (with text relay support): 1-800-FRESH-NYC (1-800-373-7469)
- Mail: FreshCut NYC, Attn: Accessibility Coordinator, 1 Centre Street, New York, NY 10007
Please include the page URL, what you were trying to do, the assistive technology you were using, and a brief description of what went wrong. We won't ask you to disclose your disability to report a barrier.
Formal complaints
If you're not satisfied with our response, you may file a complaint with:
- The U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division (ADA Title III)
- The NYC Commission on Human Rights under NYC Admin Code §8-107
- The California Department of Civil Rights (for California residents under the Unruh Civil Rights Act)
Continuous improvement
Accessibility is not a one-time project. We perform an automated accessibility scan on every pull request, a manual audit each quarter, and a third-party independent audit annually. The report is available on request.
