What is Cold Chain?
Cold chain refers to the unbroken series of refrigerated production, storage, and distribution activities that maintain a product within a specified low-temperature range. For fresh meat, this means keeping products at or below 41°F (5°C) at all times.
Our Three-Point Temperature Protocol
Every FreshCut delivery includes three mandatory temperature checkpoints:
1. Pickup (at the shop)
The driver verifies the product temperature when accepting the order from the shop. If the meat is above 41°F, the order is flagged and the shop is notified.
2. Transit
During delivery, drivers log the temperature inside their insulated bags. Our drivers use professional-grade insulated delivery bags pre-chilled with ice packs.
3. Delivery (at your door)
A final temperature reading is taken at delivery. This reading is attached to your order record for full traceability.
What Happens If Temperature Is Exceeded?
If at any point the temperature exceeds 41°F:
- The driver immediately reports the issue through the app.
- The customer is notified and given the option to refuse the order.
- A full refund is issued automatically for temperature-compromised orders.
- The incident is logged in our compliance system for review.
Driver Training
All FreshCut delivery drivers complete mandatory cold chain training that covers:
- Proper use of insulated bags and ice packs
- Temperature logging procedures
- Cross-contamination prevention (raw meat separation)
- Emergency protocols for equipment failures
Technology Behind It
Our app tracks temperature data in real-time:
- Immutable temperature logs: Once recorded, temperature data cannot be edited or deleted.
- Automated compliance alerts: The system flags any non-compliant readings instantly.
